Instruction design (ID) refers to the purposeful and systematic design and development of instructional materials and learning experiences to make “the acquisition of knowledge and skill more efficient, effective, and appealing”

(Merrill, Drake, Lacy, Pratt, & the ID2 Research Group, 1966, p. 2).


This means that those who design and develop trainings and learning objects and courses need to ensure that messaging is intended and clear (and that unintended messaging is avoided). This requires attention to detail.
